ABOUT WAY OFF BROADWAY

The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre is one of the area's premiere entertainment venues combining outstanding live stage shows with a full dinner buffet.  For those of you who haven't visited Way Off Broadway, the theatre provides an intimate setting where five Mainstage Broadway-style productions are produced each season.  In fact, Way Off Broadway is the Frederick-area's only year-round producing theatre.  From the classics to the hottest shows of today, the theatre has brought productions such as A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, The King & I, Annie, Guys & Dolls, Oklahoma!, Grease, Fiddler on the Roof, The Odd Couple, A Chorus Line, Lend Me a Tenor, The Sound of Music, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Evita, Cats, The Full Monty, South Pacific, Hairspray, Jekyll & Hyde, Legally Blonde, Sunset Boulevard, Les Misérables, The Addams Family, and Monty Python's Spamalot to the stage.

The theatre has been has been a leader in the area's performing arts community since it first opened its doors in late 1990 as Keynote Dinner Theatre.  In 1995, with a new set of owners, the curtain rose for the first time on The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre with its inaugural production, Let the Good Times Roll.  Less than an hour from Washington, DC, Baltimore, and Gettysburg, Way Off Broadway is proud to bring Broadway to Mid-Maryland.

Over the years, the theatre has continued to bring larger scale productions to the stage while still providing guests with the one-on-one service they enjoy.  In 2002, the Kiska family purchased the theatre with a desire to expand the theatre and its operations.  Since then, Way Off Broadway has become known for producing many area and/or regional premiere productions such as Neil Simon's The Goodbye Girl - The Musical, Jerry Herman's La Cage aux Folles, The Wedding Singer, Mel Brooks' The Producers, All Shook Up, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Drowsy Chaperone, Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5: The Musical, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Children's Theatre and Family Entertainment at Way Off Broadway
We certainly can't forget Way Off Broadway's wildly popular Children's Theatre that opened in 1996.  In the beginning, all of the productions were adaptations of popular children's stories written specifically for the Way Off Broadway stage.  In 2005, The Children's Theatre was proud to have created and produced the world premiere production of Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree, based on Robert Barry's book of the same name.

Starting with the 2011 Season, The Children’s Theatre at Way Off Broadway began to change its productions from adaptations of classic fairy tales to stage versions of popular children’s books and movies –- many of which came directly from the Disney Vault.  These new blockbusters were shows like Disney’s 101 Dalmatians, Cinderella, Aladdin, Peter Pan, and Alice in Wonderland; two incredibly successful runs of Pinkalicious – The Musical; Nickelodeon’s Dora the Explorer Live! Dora’s Pirate Adventure; a premiere production of Molly Shannon’s Tilly the Trickster; and the area's first production of Junie B. Jones - The Musical

Today, Way Off Broadway continues to offer family entertainment as special events throughout the year.

Special Events at Way Off Broadway
In addition to Way Off Broadway's regularly scheduled season, the theatre presents a number of special events throughout the year.  One of the most popular is Way Off Broadway's interactive murder mystery series, Marquee Mysteries.  In these original mysteries, the audience gets involved and helps to solve the case.  Through its outside producing division, WOB LIVE! Entertainment, Way Off Broadway offers its interactive mysteries for corporate and private events and is the exclusive producer of interactive mysteries on the Walkersville Southern Railroad and at the Inn Boonsboro.

The hottest ticket of the year is always for Breakfast with Santa (and Mrs. Claus), part of the theatre's Family Breakfast Series.  First started in 2002, it was soon followed by an annual Princess Breakfast in the summer.  Tickets for these events usually sell out within only a few weeks of being announced.
